Our Therapists

Our Dream

Have you ever had a dream that somehow became a reality? We have—our brick building on Hudson Avenue where we specialize in therapeutic massage has been a long time dream. Anna and I have worked together since 2004. Our doors opened on April 1st 2011, the best birthday present I could have asked for!

Breathe Massage Therapy is a place where our clients can receive a massage that will have long-term benefits, not just serve as a Band-aid to their ailments. Our exceptional therapists have seen the amazing changes massage can make and want to share them with you. They will customize a plan that will truly benefit your health.

Give us your body for an hour and we will give you back your mind.

We got our name because we want our space to be a place you can come in, sit back, and just be able to BREATHE!

Licensed Massage Therapists

April Ashbee, Co-owner/Founder

April is Co-Owner and founder of Breathe Massage Therapy, PLLC.

Since graduating from The Center for Natural Wellness in 2004, she has taken several continuing education courses in Hot Stones, Reflexology, Cupping and Lymphatic Drainage but always is drawn back to the fundamentals of Swedish Massage. The body is a complex web of fascia and connective tissue which is why April believes in a full body approach to her sessions. (Yes, your neck may be sore from tight hamstrings!)

April opened breathe in 2010 to empower more people to take control of their health by prioritizing self-care. She has worked tirelessly to provide a space where clients can feel safe and nurtured.

April was voted Best Massage by Metroland reader’s Poll 2009 and 2010.

Michelle Sanders, Co-owner / LMT

I received my license for Massage Therapy in 2011. As a graduate of the Center for Natural Wellness, I learned there that recognizing the importance of the mind/body connection is essential to self- care and overall well -being.

It’s critical in our profession to listen to a client so that we may assess what modality is appropriate and follow through after the session.  Hearing and responding to the needs of those trusting us with their physical issues are valuable tools for providing the best experience possible.

Each person who I have had the opportunity to work with will receive a massage that is tailored to their individual needs at that moment.  I incorporate Himalayan Salt Stones, cupping, aromatherapy, as well as Deep tissue massage techniques to ensure the most comprehensive massage for my clients.

I became co-owner of Breathe Massage Therapy, PLLC in 2021 after working here as an independent contractor for ten years.  I really love it here and I know you will too.

Anna Burns, LMT

I have been involved in the massage community since 2001, and at least annually, study and become certified in another modality to bring to the table. My massages can include: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot or Cold Stone Therapy, Positional Therapy, Sports Massage, Reiki, Craniosacral techniques, and acupressure, sometimes all in one session, and are always tailored to your individual needs. I am also trained in Prenatal Massage.

What I love most about being a massage therapist is fulfilling the need for touch through massage and the healing energy exchange that goes on during a session. Keeping this in mind, know that I will always respect and honor your personal space.

People often arrive for a session saying, “I looked forward to this all day/week.” They comment simply laying on the table is nice, until after the massage, when they stumble out, neck and shoulders dropped down, lower back pain relieved, and even more relaxed and peaceful.

Anna was voted ‘Best Massage’ by Metroland 2010.

Geraldine Carey, LMT

I graduated from the Center for Natural Wellness and have been with Breathe since June of 2013. I have taken many courses through the years to enable me to guide you to a relaxed state of body and mind. My education has included courses in CranioSacral Therapy, Deep & Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Reflexology, and Subtle Healing Energy. I believe the combination of my skills and the power of my intentions will enable me to address any issues you may bring to your session.  Life can be stressful so stay calm, take a walk, try to meditate, get a massage and remember to just BREATHE !!

Jenna Welch, LMT

Jenna is a graduate of the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy and brings over 15 years of experience to the table! She understands that each person has unique challenges and preferences, and prides herself in being able to hone into the needs of each individual. She applies a mixture of deep tissue, trigger point, and craniosacral therapy to release tension and create a state of calm in the body. One of her favorite modalities is prenatal massage. Jenna is a mother of twins and empathizes with the physical and emotional tension women deal with during pregnancy. Regardless of a client’s needs, she enjoys creating a warm and caring environment in which to wind down into deep relaxation mode.

Jeannette Brewer, LMT

My name is Jeannette Brewer. My love for massage started when I was in my senior year of high school, and was working part-time as a CNA in a nursing home. While helping the residence with the care they could no longer do on their own I realized, along with the aging process, comes pain that as a young high schooler, I did not have or quite understand. So during their care, I started spending a little more time giving them a little more individual compassion, whether it was a short hand massage to help with their arthritic hands so they could hold their utensils to get through their meal without pain or a foot massage at bedtime to help their aching feet so they might sleep better or just a few extra minutes listening to them talk about their day. Just seeing their smiley faces from a little bit of massage was all it took for me to want to pursue a career in massage therapy.

After my children were older, and being a stay-at-home mom while they were little, I found myself a single mom without a career and with my youngest in junior high I wanted better for us so I decided it was my time to fulfill my dream and in 2008 I started my journey at Mildred Elley to become a licensed massage therapist.

After graduating and taking my boards in 2011, I spent time honing my skills at both high-volume spas and franchises. I became proficient in many modalities and working on specific concerns for pain relief through massage.

After many years of doing what I love, I have decided to follow my dream of working for a smaller spa where I can spend more time with clients, addressing their concerns and helping them achieve what they want from massage therapy. I love the idea of continuing pursuing my dream at a high-end spa level but with a small business family-orientated feel.

I pride myself on continuing education for massage. Every chance I have I strive to learn new modalities. My modalities include Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, maternity, cupping, hot stone, Himalayan hot stone, lymphatic drainage, oncology, aromatherapy, and poultice massage.
My massage work is flowing, deep and gentle. My goal at Breathe is to build client/therapist relationships that will last years to come….
